The Department of Protocol and Consular Services is responsible for coordination of State Protocol services to facilitate smooth arrangements of national and international functions. This includes facilitation of State, Official and working visits by foreign Heads of State/Government and external visits by the President of the Republic of Botswana.

The Department also provides consular services to Batswana both locally and in the diaspora, and foreign nationals. Furthermore, it facilitates the administration of privileges and immunities accorded to diplomats accredited to Botswana in accordance with the Diplomatic Immunities and Privileges Act and the Vienna Conventions on Diplomatic Relations and Consular Relations (1961) and Laws of Botswana (Cap:39:01) as well as consular services in accordance with international norms and practices.
