Ms. Ntesang Molemele
The Department is responsible for the promotion of Botswana’s relations within international organisations including the United Nations and its Specialised Agencies, the Commonwealth, Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), World Trade Organisation (WTO), G77+China as well as in other platforms. Issues dealt with address global stability, security, governance issues, human rights and development.
Botswana regards multilateral diplomacy as a key component of its foreign policy, primarily because, as a member of the community of nations, there has been a realisation that challenges such as national development, human rights violations, security, peace, disease control, and climate change, are too vast and complex for any one country, no matter how powerful, to effectively manage on its own. Multilateralism thus remains the most effective forum in which, as a small and developing country, Botswana has the opportunity to exert her influence on the international agenda.
The Department also drives Botswana’s objective of placing more Batswana in international organizations. It coordinates implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework at the national level.
